Our mission is simple: help pet owners make safer, lower-waste, practical choices for everyday life with cats, dogs, and small animals. We research the sustainability and safety credentials of what we cover, comparing manufacturer documentation, certifications, and reputable sources, and explain — in plain language — what is worth buying, what to avoid, and why.

Who runs Practical Eco Pet

Practical Eco Pet is written and maintained by The Practical Eco Pet Team. We focus specifically on practical, lower-waste pet care, and every guide is researched and fact-checked before publication.

The site was born from frustration with vague “eco-friendly” marketing claims that didn't hold up to scrutiny. Every product featured here is researched and fact-checked against measurable criteria such as certifications and published data — not just manufacturer specifications.

What we cover

Practical Eco Pet is focused specifically on pets right now — cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small animals — not a general lifestyle site. Every guide currently published falls into one of four areas:

• Cat Care — Litter, feeding, toys, and furniture
• Dog Care — Nutrition, grooming, gear, and waste
• Small Pets — Bedding and habitat for rabbits, guinea pigs, and more
• Pet-Safe Home — Cleaning your home without putting your pet at risk

We're actively building out a few more areas — Low-Waste Pet Life, Sustainable Products, Travel and Renting With Pets, Tools and Checklists — but we'd rather wait until each one has enough genuinely useful guides than publish a section that's mostly empty. We'll link to them here as soon as they're ready.

How we work

We are not a content farm. Each guide starts with a real question and ends with a recommendation we would give a friend. We research each product thoroughly — comparing manufacturer documentation, certifications, and reputable sources — and only publish once we have something genuinely useful to say — including when the honest answer is “skip it.”

Our editorial approach

• No sponsored placements: We don't accept payment in exchange for a favorable review or ranking.
• Reviewed and fact-checked: Every guide is reviewed and fact-checked before publishing, weighed against measurable criteria rather than marketing copy alone.
• Cited data: Where we reference figures — absorption rates, carbon footprints, durability, certifications — we cite the source rather than presenting them as our own measurements.
• Kept current: Guides are revisited periodically to fix outdated information, dead links, and superseded certifications.
• Transparent sourcing: When we cite third-party data (LCA studies, certification standards), we link directly to the source.

Our editorial standards

• Independence: No brand influences our recommendations. None of our published articles or pages currently contain affiliate links, and affiliate revenue would never change a conclusion.
• Accuracy: Claims are verified against primary sources. Errors are corrected promptly with visible updates.
• Usefulness: Every guide must answer a specific, practical question. Theory-only pieces are not published.
• Sustainability integrity: We prioritize certified claims (OK Compost HOME, FSC, GOTS, etc.) over unverified marketing terms.
